Junior Handicap Team take on Lincolnshire at Thonock Park – Saturday 31st May
It was sunny Thonock Park for the first handicap match of the season. The team were playing the Karsten Lakes course, it certainly lives up to it’s name, with plenty of water and meandering streams to contend with.
The team of Olivia Wilson - the match captain, Erika Lee, Yara Kubba, Sancha Evison and Sofia Evison, took on the more experienced Lincs team on a course they had used regularly throughout the winter. Erika, Yara and Sancha making their debut for the handicap team.
There was some fantastic golf played, with the parents commenting on the high standard of play. Olivia’s game against Bella went to the 18th hole with Olivia bringing in a well-earned half after a tussle throughout, with many holes being won by pars. Erika was ‘on fire’ throughout the front 9, getting a healthy lead against Ruby going into the back 9 and winning 4 & 3. Yara had a tough opponent with Emelia, and the rising wind on the back 9 finally closed the match with a Lincolnshire win, despite some great putting by Yara. Sancha and her opponent Holly battled the winding beck going down the 16th hole, with Sancha bringing her game back to 1 down, unfortunately the strong wind and a long carry over water on 17 saw Sancha’s ball take an early swim – it was close to making it, but a par from Holly finished the game with a Lincs win. Sofia also battled an in-form Darcey and the back 9 saw Darcey take the last few holes to secure a Lincs win.
The overall score was 1½ - 3½ to Lincs. A friendly match with all players enjoying the company and a testing course. Well done everyone, next match on Sunday against Leicestershire at Radcliffe-on-Trent.
