County Championship Matchplay
WOW what a weekend of great matchplay golf at Worksop GC, congratulations to the eight players who treated the spectators to some excellent golf and very close matches on Saturday and Sunday. The recent dry weather made the course, particularly the fairways a challenging test for all. The semi finals in particular were thrilling with both going to the final putts on the 18th hole and so a special mention to Amelia Wan and Millie Marsh who both fought so hard but just missed out on making it to the final.
The final was between Emily Rowbottom (Hollinwell) and Elizabeth Wilson (Norwood Park) and it was a treat to watch. Emily holed some great putts at the start to establish a lead but Lizzie then fought back. She showed great resilience to get back into the match and move ahead in the latter stages of the second nine. Lizzie was 2up on the 17th tee but Emily was still playing some great golf and with two challenging holes to finish had a chance of taking the match into extra holes. On the 17th both players hit great drives and found the green with their second shots but then Lizzie holed a tricky downhill putt to close out the match 3/1.
Both Lizzie and Emily deserve great praise for their play and for representing their clubs so well. Many congratulations to Lizzie on becoming the 2025 NCLGA County Champion.
