Congratulations to both Amelia Wan and Elizabeth Wilson who were successful in different national competitions over this weekend. Well done also to Millie Marsh (Sherwood Forest) who made the cut in the British U16 Championship and finished in 36th place, with scores of 73,73 and 74.
England Women's Squad member Amelia Wan produced a stunning wire-to-wire performance to lift the Welsh Women's Open Strokeplay at Ashburnham Golf Club. The 18-year-old Coxmoor member, finished seven shots clear of second (-11), after shooting the lowest round in all three days of action. During a difficult test on the South Wales coast, she showed incredible poise and control to minimise mistakes with only four players finishing under par.
Starting with two eagles in her opening round of 4-under (71), which included a 54-foot putt, she followed with rounds of 72 and 71 to complete the biggest win of her young career. Brillant golf Amelia!
Elizabeth Wilson defeated fellow England Girls' Squad member Lauren Crump in a play-off to lift the Girls' Fairhaven Trophy. The duo, who were the only players under par (-2) across the four rounds, couldn't be separated throughout the contest, with just one shot the difference after each day's play. But on a testing course, Elizabeth, who plays at Norwood Park, edged Hill Valley's Lauren Crump to add to her top-five finish at this year's Helen Holm Scottish Women's Amateur.
She said: "It feels great to have won such a prestigious event and I'm really happy I was able to get over the line in the play-off.
Congratulations Lizzie, you're doing amazingly well!
